Yes, it is possible to install Windows 2008 R2 on HP DL380 G4, because it is based on a 64 bit Intel Xeon processors, here is the link to the HP ProLiant DL380 Generation 4 (G4) - Worldwide QuickSpecs for more details.
- Before you begin, check if your server meets the minimum requirements to install Windows 2008 R2 Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 System Requirements.
- You need a DVD Drive if you plan to install with the Windows 2008 R2 DVD media. In otherwise, you need the ISO file if you install with iLO.
- It is recommended to upgrade the hardware firmware of your server if you did not have done it yet. For doing it, you need to download HP Firmware Maintenance CD 8.50 (for more details see the Support Documentation in the Installation Instructions tab). I recommend this version, because it is the latest version which support the upgrade of BIOS firmware for this server model (see Firmware Maintenance CD Server Support Guide for this version).
- The last step is to download HP SmartStart CD x64 8.30 (for more details see the Support Documentation in the Installation Instructions tab). I recommend this version, because it is the first version of HP SmartStart which supports Windows 2008 R2 and contains ProLiant Support Pack 8.30 for the needed drivers for this version of Windows and it is stable also.
Note:
I don't recommend this configuration in production. Use it only for tests or labs, because is not supported both by HP and Microsoft.
Hi Rabah,
ReplyDeleteI tried to find HP Firmware Maintenance CD 8.50 on HP FTP, but could not find one of them.
Maybe you have a copy? Could you share with me?
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/cd/p1040529012/v50888/firmware-8.50-0.zip
ReplyDeleteThe 8.50 is not available.
ReplyDeleteTry the ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/cd/p1040529012 link and select e.g. v53483/ folder for 8.60.
And thanks for the guide it is working. :)
